The Tubeheads are a group in the Texan region.

Historical background

Mr. Entertainment's broadcasts bring joy to the Wasteland, and his followers work to bring a little bit of joy to everyone. While some cynics point out that only recently could Texas support anything like a television industry, rendering this a cute gimmick, others are happy to gather in their taverns, bars, or town halls to watch the latest broadcast.

The Tubeheads broadcast self-produced movies and a weekly entertainment variety show, headed by Mr. Entertainment. Their "missionaries" wander the wasteland, installing television sets and signal masts across the region, as well as paying raiders to fight in gladiatorial combat. They are also on friendly terms with the Texan Brotherhood,[1] positioning themselves as humanitarians bringing entertainment and joy to a bland Wasteland full of suffering.[2]

Behind the scenes

  • The Tubeheads' capital, KXII Station, is based on the real-world KXII television station, based out of Sherman, Texas.[3]
  • The Tubeheads were created by Zapdude.[4]
    • The Tubeheads were to have a unique "viewership" mechanic, but was not featured in 3.0.[5]
  • The Tubeheads leader, Mr. Entertainment, has heterochromia, resulting in two differently colored eyes.[6]
    • Mr. Entertainment hosts a number of television broadcasts, including self-produced movies, such as spy films, as well as weekly Friday entertainment show named after himself.[4]
    • Mr. Entertainment was designed as an amalgamation of 1950s and 1960s TV show hosts, serving as a person acting out "the "role" of a talk show host, but tweaked to fit the chaotic pace and needs of a Wasteland audience."[7]

Zapdude277: "They're on good terms with the Brotherhood, actually. All they do is spread televisions and pay raiders to fight in mortal combat, very few people have a problem with them. Their "missionaries" are quite pushy, but all they do is install televisions and signal masts, so most people just leave them be,"
  2. Reddit: "And no one finds that at all suspicious? I would have guessed that TVs are quite the rarity and not something people would give out for free."
Zapdude277: "No more suspicious than the Followers, who give out precious medicines like candies. They definitely have their opponents, and it's not like the Brotherhood are all smiles, but all they do is give out and install TV equipment so that people can watch a show. They position themselves as humanitarians bringing entertainment and joy to a bland Wasteland full of suffering, and many communities are glad to have something new to do."
  3. Reddit: "Where are they located?"
Zapdude277: "Texas! They're in the location of some irl network station, KXII or something like that, it slips my mind atm"

Zapdude277: "They have a unique mechanic for spreading viewership, but it's not 100% going to be included in 3.0, really depends on how it's received by testers."
