Troll Warren is a Super Mutant collective in Oregon led by a Super Mutant called the First, who was formerly a soldier guarding the site. Since the Master's fall, a significant population of First Generation Super Mutants and Nightkin have migrated to the Warren in search of shelter.

Historical background

Within the dark depths of a cave system in Oregon, the denizens of Troll Warren drag screaming victims into a lagoon of FEV. A former dumping ground for Mariposa Military Base, the remote caverns of the Warren are now home to tribal killers.

As the distant sound of the world ending echoed from outside, a Mariposa guard fell into the glowing lake, and emerged as the First. Old holotapes in a foreign voice remind him of his lost humanity, but they couldn't prevent his mind from slowly deteriorating. Soon the Warren will awaken, and all of Oregon will tremble.

National spirits

Troll Warren starts with one national spirit:

Warband without a Home icon
Warband without a Home
  • Stability: -15.00%
  • Damage Reduction Against CAS: +20.0%
  • (Flag of Carcass Walkers Carcass Walkers) Attack bonus against country: +20.0%
  • (The Flag of Rib Breakers Rib Breakers) Attack bonus against country: +10.0%
  • (The Flag of Marrow Drinkers Marrow Drinkers) Attack bonus against country: +5.0%
With the fall of the Master's Army in the south, as well as the fall of Vault 6 to the north many of our ranks are homeless - destitute Super Mutants without anywhere else to go. The Warren cannot hold such numbers - we need room to grow!

Gameplay

Conscription Law

Troll Warren has 4 Conscription Laws. The laws can be switched manualy, but have Focus tree based restrictions, as well as a minimum number of states controlled requirements, and can only be INCREASED. With increasing levels of Conscription, the player trades Stability for massive improvemnts in Division and Research speed, as well as the increasing percentage of recruitable population. As more and more Mutants gather, it's increasingly easier to strafe them from aircraft.

  • Division Attack -10.0%
  • Research speed: -50.00%
  • Max Entrenchment: +1.0
  • Damage Reduction Against CAS: +70.0%
Since the fall of the Master's Army the Super Mutants of the Troll Warren have been living within the cave systems of Oregon for decades. It has become a way of life for them, a subterranean life away from the surface dwellers.

  • Research speed: -25.00%
  • Damage Reduction Against CAS: +50.0%
For many they feel that now is the time to start leaving the caves and venturing out into the wild lands we have conquered. The sun is a harsh thing and the wastes are wild -.. yet food is much easier to find out here then in there.

  • Research speed: +5.00%

By this point very few of our people still live in those old caves - we have become a roaming army, going from city to city, sacking what we can and looting all that they have. Mutants across the wasteland are hearing of our conquests and are coming to aid us!

Behind the scenes

  • Troll Warren was planned by Loonybinjin,[1] and implemented by chacolah, with others working on the code.[2]
    • During 2.1, Zusk redesigned Troll Warren, replacing its focus tree in order to polish and refine it.[3]
  • The Troll Warren was originally based on a Super Mutant community in the same location meant to appear in the cancelled Fallout: Extreme, where it would've been at some point taken over by The Cause.
